I CANNOT, NOT, TELL A LIE

TAKARA TOMY

The USO SENSOR

The campaign was a lie. And that’s exactly why it worked.

What if your forehead could call your bluff?

The campaign centered around the Cocoro Scanner, a device resembling a weird headband that measures pulse from the forehead to assess emotional states. The device uses a color-coded system:

Red: Indicates nervousness or potential dishonesty

Yellow: Suggests uncertainty

Green: Denotes calmness and truthfulness

On the surface, it looked like a legit tech demo – a forehead-mounted lie detector lighting up as strangers in Tokyo answered awkward questions. But the whole thing was staged. A spoof with just enough polish to spark debate.

Is it real? Is it fake? Either way, people shared it. Argued about it. Laughed at it. And that’s what mattered.

It made Takara Tomy feel cheeky, current, and culturally clued-in – the kind of brand that’s in on the joke, but smart enough to sell it straight. The campaign proved the age old saying: “Harmless lies, helpful lives.”… OK I totally made that up…
